Chapter 8 Types of support

8.1 Information support

The information support of the Pipeline Digital Twin (PDT) includes:

  • reference data and master data on pipelines, materials, defects, and repair methods;
  • diagnostic survey data (in-line inspection, non-destructive testing, visual inspection);
  • operational documentation (passports, repair logs, test reports);
  • design and as-built documentation for pipeline systems.

8.2 Software

The PDT software suite runs as a client-server web application and includes:

  • a server side — computation modules, an API, and a database management system;
  • a client side — a web interface with 3D visualization and interactive dashboards;
  • integration modules for external systems (SCADA, ERP, GIS).

8.3 Hardware support

Hardware support must provide:

  • server infrastructure to host the computation modules and the data storage;
  • communication channels to transmit data from sensors and diagnostic systems;
  • infrasonic instrument monitoring tools to calibrate the model.

8.4 Methodological support

  • Methods for calculating the residual life and strength of pipelines.
  • Procedures for running diagnostic surveys.
  • Guidelines for interpreting modeling results.

8.5 Organizational support

  • Procedures for coordinating departments during PDT operation.
  • Staff training programs.
  • Rules for updating data and verifying models.
